Obedience with Christ
Introduction
I wonder where the church today would be if we only owned Christ. If only we truly believed the Word….
As you decide to read this article, there will be many questions that will arise. All I ask is for you to really truly consider the extent that you would obey God.
Are you available?
I’m taking you down a path of scripture so beautiful and brave. You may have heard this story one Sunday morning as a kid, or read it one time in passing. One of my favorites for several reasons, and you’ll see why haha!!
Let’s start this journey with (Genesis 22:1).
God wanted to test Abraham’s faith and his devotion to the Lord Almighty. God called his name and Abraham answered, saying; here I am.
Now, this is the most interesting part for me. Abraham had absolutely no idea what God would ask of him. But with a servant's heart, he was available to the call.
~ are we available to God’s call on our life?
Unfortunately, I will admit, there are times when I don’t want to be available for God because oftentimes it means giving up my own desires.
I will sit in bitterness of my own conceit wondering why He won’t use me, rather than live freely for Christ and give up my life happily knowing dying to self is gain. All for the glory of God.
(Philippians 1:21)
The joy of complete sorrow
God asked Abraham what could have been the most insane request. He asked Abraham to offer his only son, Isaac, up as an offering, as a sacrifice.
I wonder what went through Abraham’s mind, knowing he was being asked to give up one of the most precious things in his life. The scripture doesn’t describe it much, but I believe he was humbled to the ground by what he had been asked to do.
Was the choice hard to make? Was it something he wanted to refuse? You might say these are simple questions with simple answers, but I believe it’s more complex than that.
The very next verse of Genesis 22 says that Abraham rose early, got ready, and left with two men and his son. Oh, the journey to the top of that mountain; was the most difficult thing. The sorrow only God knew, and the joy of it all knowing this is what He had asked.
Abraham being obedient, walked with his son and after days of travel and prayer, placed him down, ready to end the life of the child he waited so long for. God spared Isaac’s life in an incredible way. It was never about Isaac, although he was significantly impacted by this situation. In this story, Isaac resembles so much.
Knowing God may call you to give it all up for Himself is cultivating. Are you ready? Ready to give it all up? The Lord will bless your obedience.
Answering the call
Please read this passage all the way through if you haven’t read it. Get to know God’s heart. Take up the opportunity to understand the Creator. If we had the chance to ask Abraham if he would have done it again for the sake of Christ, I believe he’d say yes. Knowing God only wanted to see how great his faith truly was.
In today's world, what would it take for our hearts and minds to be aligned with God’s? Do we trust God the way we say we do?
I want to be ready to answer the call in full confidence and obedience.
(Deuteronomy 6:5)
I hope you are challenged in a world of comfort to give that up to a certain degree. You will see God work so so much! Praying you listen to what God has in store for you. ((:
